GBSummitVentureBeat ventured into Boston this week to host #GrowthBeat Summit, a two day summit to help successful CMOs achieve growth by leveraging technology to talk with customers at the right moments of their journey, and aligning those conversations with results.

CMOs from around the country - both B2B and B2C - gathered to discuss how to master the CMO role and merge creativity with technology to drive growth. As a technology provider to marketers ourselves, we were of course very interested in the conversations taking place. Here are some of our favorite quotes from the event:

“The CMO and CIO will determine the future of business in 2015.” (Marketing and data, together - we like that!)

“Marketers’ biggest asset is the story” - VentureBeat opines on this, here.

“Key takeaways: 1) Don’t slight the role of creative & story 2) ‘data’ is extremely easy to [mis]interpret” - Jordan Cohen, CMO of Fluent, Inc.

“The CMO and chief customer officer blended role could be a powerful combination for customer-centric companies.”

“I used to fight for digital with the brand folks. These days I’m fighting for brand with the digital folks.” - Michael Troiano,  CMO

“Do more of what works and less of what does not.” - Heather Smiley, CMO, MassMutual

All in all, the themes were clear: The role of the CMO continues to evolve, with data, customers and information central to the role. Storytelling and creativity are still the crux. The most successful CMOs know how to blend both the left and right sides of the brain to reach and influence audiences, and analyze patterns of success to repeat what’s working and pivot from what isn’t. Naturally, we love that since we’re all about analytics and data to help marketers be more strategic. The future is exciting.

Prior to the event, our CEO &  Founder and VentureBeat’s Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Matt Marshall, discussed who some of the top CMOs are on the East Coast. As part of the summit, VentureBeat named The Top 20 CMOs in New England. Congratulations to all those on the list, including some friends and customers of SeeDepth!
